20th Anniversary of Asbestos Banning in Australia

Councillor Carol Martin OAM

I am grateful as a board member of The Asbestos Diseases Society of South Australia Inc. for the special invitation from fierce advocates of eradication of Asbestos in work places and homes
Connie Bonaros MLC and Emily Bourke – Labor MLC

Today’s gathering was in recognition on the 20th anniversary of asbestos banning in Australia at Parliament House in SA.
4000 people die each year from this insidious disease.

A wonderful speech and appreciation from us all in Attendance of Mathew Werfel a survivor in the third wave advocating nationally for community protection through awareness and eradication efforts.
Mathew was unaware in his normal environment known as the third wave that he had contracted Mesothelioma through Fencing Contractor and DIY Renovations.
Mathew is Chairperson of the Dust Diseases Alliance and works with the Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency.
With National Asbestos Awareness Week, Mathew will be on the trail again fighting to get the awareness campaign out there.

So good to be with our President Peter M Photakis and fellow Board members
Thank you to Connie Bonaros our Ambassador for ADSSA for all you do.

On Thursday 23/11 at Jack Watkins Reserve in the City of Port Adelaide Enfield we will honour those fallen to Mesothelioma and asbestos related diseases.
With local government colleague and ADSSA Ambassador Michael Coxon – MAYOR of West Torrens
